T'ai Chi Ch'uan

T'ai chi ch'uan is an "inner style" martial art, based on the principles of relaxation and inner harmony. It was introduced to Amercia by Cheng Man Ching in the early 1970's from where it spread rapidly.

Students begin by learning the yang style short form, which consists of a series of 6o consecutive movements that help them experience the principles of relaxation, grounding, body coordination and alignment.

The style taught at Center is that of Grandmaster W.C.C. Chen, senior student of the late Cheng Man Ching.

Although generally practised for its beneficial effects on health rather than for its effectiveness as a fighting technique, t'ai chi ch'uan movements have a martial application as well.

Tai Chi Sword
This beautiful yang-style sword form of Grandmaster W.C.C. Chen consists of 64 flowing movements. Participants must have some experience of t'ai chi ch'uan as a foundation for t'ai chi sword.
